Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure tailored to the patient’s facial features, nasal skin characteristics, and personal preferences. A thorough physical examination is essential before surgery. During the examination, the patient’s medical history is reviewed, and an evaluation of the septum, turbinates, and sinuses is conducted using endoscopes. Following the examination, professional studio photographs are taken, and the most suitable nose design is planned. Reaching a mutual agreement with the patient about the surgical process, the recovery period, and potential nose shapes is of great importance.
Rhinoplasty surgery is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes around 2 hours. In this procedure, deviations in the nasal cartilage and bone are corrected, and an aesthetically pleasing nasal appearance is achieved in the same session. Dr Erdal Erkoc is using latest technologies like Burr Machine and Piezo Ultrasonic Devices. The primary goal is to create a stylish nose that complements the patient’s facial proportions while also improving breathing.
Surgical Technique in Rhinoplasty
Under general anesthesia, the internal and external layers of the nose are anesthetized. The cartilage and bone structure beneath the skin and subcutaneous tissues is then exposed. After addressing any nasal airway issues (such as septal deviation, turbinate hypertrophy, or sinus problems), aesthetic procedures are initiated.
The cartilage and bone anatomy that forms the nasal dorsum and sidewalls are precisely reshaped using Piezo (Ultrasonic Bone Cutter) and TUR devices. Once the ideal nasal shape is achieved, internal and external silicone splints are placed and typically remain for about a week.
Postoperative Period After Rhinoplasty
After surgery, the patient is taken to their room for rest and post-operative care. During the first week, it is crucial to keep the head elevated while sleeping. Cold compresses applied around the nose during the first four days significantly help reduce swelling. Patients may begin eating 3 hours after surgery but should avoid very hot or solid foods.
Antibiotic and pain management medications are administered orally during the first postoperative week. The nasal interior is cleaned with saline sprays and prescribed creams. At the end of the first week, all internal and external splints are removed, and gentle adhesive strips are applied to accelerate skin recovery.
Although patients may return to their daily routines after the second week, it is important to avoid lifting heavy items or engaging in intense physical activity during the first month. Swelling and bruising around the nose typically subside two weeks after surgery, eliminating the appearance of a recently operated nose.
Postoperative follow-ups are scheduled at 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, and 24 months. The nose continues to heal and undergo subtle changes for up to two years. Therefore, regular check-ups are essential to maintain the aesthetic outcome and ensure continued improvement.
During this period, additional suggestions such as nasal massages, nasal taping, or the use of nostril shapers may be beneficial for certain patients. Patients who are unable to attend in-person follow-ups should continue their check-ins via online photo and video submissions.
